So he (Gideon) said to Him, "O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed
my clan is
the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house." 16
And the Lord said to him, "Surely I will be with you, and you shall
defeat the
Midianites as one man." -(Judges 6:15,16) (NKJV).
.
.
Telemachus was living a quiet Christian life in a village in the 4th century. He spent a lot of time in prayer. One day he heard God tell him "Go to Rome".
Immediately he obeyed and began his journey on foot. After many days he
arrived at the city. At that time the entire city was in a festive
mood. A big crowd was going towards the Coliseum. He also followed and
went inside. He saw the gladiators salute the emperor saying "We, who
are going
to die, salute you!" Those gladiators were either murderers or slaves.
They would fight each other till the other one died. Sometimes they
would have
to fight lions or tigers. Seeing this, Telemachus cried in a loud voice,
"In the name of Jesus, stop!"
.
They did not heed any attention to his shout and started the fight and so he jumped into the arena. Seeing a puny little figure running towards the mighty gladiators, the crowd started to laugh thinking it was some kind of joke.
.
When they realized that he was sincere, the crowd began to get angry.
One of them stabbed him with his sword. Telemachus fell on the ground
bleeding. Others started to throw stones at him. But still he kept on
pleading with them to stop the fight and died.
.
Then an unexpected thing happened. The gladiators were looking at the
dead body. There was silence throughout the coliseum. One man from the
front row stood up and began to leave. Others too followed him and went
out in the deathly quietness.
.
After that incident in 391 A.D. the fight in the coliseum was completely stopped. Hallelujah. All this happened because a man spoke in the name
of God! . Perhaps, we may think, "I am an insignificant person in a
corner. Who is going to listen to me?" If a simple man's pleading could
stop a deadly sport, the words we say in God's name will surely be
heard.
Gideon asked "O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the
weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house." And the
Lord said
to him, "Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites
as one man." And indeed he defeated the Midianites.
.
It is easy for the Lord to save either through the least and the weakest. But if we do not act, who can the Lord use?
.
Bible says in Proverbs 31:8,9, "Open
your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are
appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the
cause of the poor and needy." We should speak for those cannot speak for
themselves and the oppressed. God will look at those people and do
justice to them. When the LORD God called Moses to lead the Israelites
from bondage
he said, "O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You
have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of
tongue."
.
So the Lord said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the
mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now
therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you
shall say." - (Exodus 4:10-12).
.
Only with that stammering Moses He saved the Israelites from slavery.
So, it is our duty to go according to His call and He will teach us
what to say. Shall we stand up for the Lord? Shall we speak as He
directs? Shall we be His
mouth-piece? May the Lord bless us. Amen. Hallelujah.
.
"I need tongues to talk for Me
And legs to walk as I walked
I need people who love Me
You must be that one"
Calls Jesus
Talk to Him, He will lead you.
.
Prayer:Our
Loving Heavenly Father, we thank you for this good day. We thank you
for calling us, the least and
weakest, like you called Gideon and Moses. We praise you for doing
mighty things if we accept your call. Grant us the grace to realize your
calling.
Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus
Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
