And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man. - 2Samuel 24:14

David wanted to find out the strength of his army. There fore he ordered census to be conducted in his kingdom. And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.(2Sam 24:1-2). This action of David meant that he depended on his own strength. Yes God raised David. He was a shepherd but God anointed him and made him a king. Now David believes in the strength of his soldiers rather than the all powerful God. This is an abomination in the eyes of God. As a punishment of David’s action God placed three choices before him and commanded to select one. For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.(2Sam 24:11-13).

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.(2Sam 24:14) David said to himself that I will not fall in to the hand of man or in to the hands of enemies. There fore he surrendered himself to God. David knew that God alone can deliver him form this predicament. As David trusted in the Lord, God stopped that plague. And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.(2Sam 14:24). Beloved, occasionally you may feel proud. Because of that you might have exhibited your power. Because of this God would have permitted certain chastising. Beloved, God alone is your healer. There is forgiveness in Him. His mercy is great. Today you submit your self in the hands of God, so that you shall not be ashamed in front of men. You have committed sins, iniquities by departing from God’s presence for which the punishment is enormous. But God’s mercy and love towards are mightier than the punishment. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.(Pro 28:13). There is a limit for human love and mercy. But God’s love and mercy is unfathomable. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.(Deut 5:10).

And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. – Luke 1:50
