But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. - 1 Thessalonians 2:4
Here Paul says to please God, who tests our motives. In our life we are facing so many trials. Whenever we are facing trials we are saying God brings trials and temptations. But the word of God clearly says God tempts no one. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: (James 1:13). The temptations comes in our life is due to our sins and our lust. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.(James 1:14-15) In our today’s devotion the word of God says, but God, which trieth our hearts. Here the word trieth signify the word test. The things Lord permits is not the temptations, these are the tests. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.(James 1:2-3) It’s necessary for every man should go through tests. Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.(Ps 105:19) In life of Joseph the word of God tests him. In the life of Joseph he passes through the circumstances to do against the word of God. But in all his situation he stand firm in the word of God and he did not sin. He gets victory in his tests.
Yes God himself tempts no one. Bibles calls devil is the tempter. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.(Mat 4:3) Remember that God's tests are different than the temptations of the devil. Devil always bring evils and hurt you. God's test is whether you will act on His Word. God never test you to hurt you. He allows the test that you will overcome it. When God allows test he have hope that you will get victory over your test. God is testing you that you are obeying his word in all your situations. He is testing to know you are faithful in all circumstance. So when you do according to His word you will easy get victory in your test. Jesus is teaching us the same thing. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, Devil brings the things that act against the word of God. In all those things Jesus overcome it through the word of God saying it is written. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.(luke 4:5-8) Dear beloved in the same way in your life, whenever you are testing stand firm in the word of God and get victory. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.(James 1:12)
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: - 1 Peter 1:7
