a compassionate and merciful God

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, - Exodus 34:6

God has revealed His name to Moses on several occations. To the fore fathers God revealed his name as Almighty God. When He spoke to Moses He said his name is JEHOVAH. And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them(Exo 6:2-3). To receive the word of God Moses waited in the Mount of Sinai. When the Israelites found that Moses not returned they created idols and worshiphed them as their God that lead them. Thus they corrupted them selves. When Moses came down from the mount he saw what was happening there and he got angry. And trew the stone tablets which was made by God and written by the finger of God. And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest. And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount(Exo 34:1-2). Moses obeyed the commandment of God then God reveled his own name. And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,(Exo 34:5-6).

Here God revealed five names to Moses. These five named indicate the five nature of God. The same God reveals him today for you. He is merciful God. (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.(Deut 4:31). Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful(Lk 6:36). He is gracious God. But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments, And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.(Nehe 9:16-17). In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.(Isa 54:8). He is God of great kindness. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.(Joel 2:13). He is abundant in goodness. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.(Isa 55:7). He is God of truth. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.(1Jn 5:20).
